Rich people can afford to ignore climate change because they can take drastic measures to protect themselves, their families, and their homes. By now you’ve probably heard of Kim and Kanye’s brave contingent of private firefighters. Now if you can’t afford to hire your own firefighters or build a seawall or hitch a ride on Elon Musk’s Space Ark then you probably can’t afford to ignore climate change (or vote Republican).
So-called “Doomsday Preppers” are particularly ill-equipped to deal with natural disasters. It’s easy to picture them drowning like rats in their safe rooms or choking on smoke as their stockpiles of ammo are consumed by fire. I suppose you can shoot at a wildfire or flood but it probably won’t do much except provide a temporary morale boost. Then again, that’s why people own guns in the first place, right?

The most even-handed appraisal of the man and his work I’ve read so far.
